Did you know that there are different types of fresh-cut Christmas trees? Your location and climate will determine what trees the tree lots in your area will offer. At The Plant Kingdom, we sell PREMIUM (aka Grade A or #1), fresh-cut FRASER FIR trees. Premium Fraser Firs are the highest quality cut-trees on the market. Fraser Firs have blue-green needles with silvery undersides and are known for their excellent needle retention and pleasant scent. This Fir’s stiff branches make it the perfect tree for twinkling lights and all of your ornaments.
Our premium fresh-cut Fraser Firs come from a family farm in North Carolina, the same farm we have been ordering from for over 25 years. Each year, right before Thanksgiving, they cut our trees and immediately load and ship directly to us.
Once the trees arrive our tree wranglers will hang them up by size so you can view them from all sides. We also place them in buckets of water in order to keep them healthy and hydrated during their time at the PK.

Fresh-Cut Tree Care
There are a few simple steps you can take to maintain the freshness of your fresh-cut tree:
Make a fresh cut by removing a ½ inch slice. (We’ll do this for you)
Place the tree in water as soon as possible. Most sources give a 4-6 hour window to place in water before a new cut would have to be made. There is no need to add anything to the water in your stand. The best site indoors for your cut Christmas tree is an area away from a heater, air vent, fireplace, or direct sunlight, all of which can increase the moisture loss of your tree. If your tree is not going to be brought indoors immediately, it is best to store it in a cool, shady area outside standing in water.
Check the water level in your stand daily. Initially, trees may take up a lot of water and should be checked more often. Do not let the water source run dry. Properly cared for trees can last up to five weeks.
Living Christmas Tree Care
When choosing a live Christmas tree there are a few simple steps to follow to ensure it’s success once it is planted in the garden:
Choose an evergreen variety that is appropriate for the area you want to plant it in after the holidays. You should also select a plant that is of manageable size and weight that can be safely moved in and out of your home. Caution, the evergreen may be heavier than it looks. Keep in mind that not all evergreens make great living Christmas trees. Nordman Fir and Oriental Spruce are excellent choices because they have a high tolerance for abrupt environmental changes, softer needles, and beautiful branches for all of your ornaments.
Keep your tree outside in a protected location until it is time to bring it inside. We recommended that the tree be indoors no more than 3-4 days. This is very important!
Water your tree a few days before bringing it inside. This will give time for any excess water to drain away. If your tree is indoors for only the 3-4 day window, no additional water should be needed.
Protect your floor by placing your tree inside a decorative container. You may also want to use a heavy duty saucer, cork mat, and/or floor guard to prevent water from seeping out and damaging your floor.
After the holidays your tree should be planted as soon as possible. Ease the transition to the outdoors by placing your tree in an unheated garage or similarly protected but still cool spot for a few days. This will help acclimate your tree to the cold again. Planting and watering instructions are the same as we would recommend otherwise. Ask a team member about our year-round tree installation program. Our professional team is here to help.
On behalf of our entire team we wish you a joyful, successful, and safe holiday season!
